Final Word

One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.

~ C.G. Jung (Alchemical Studies)

It is always admirable when people want to improve themselves; and therefore in relation to dating and seduction, one would imagine that with the profusion of experts abounding on nearly all aspects of those topics, we should all be living happy contented lives, having all the loving and sex that one might ever require. Yet this isn’t the case - Men still grumble “How can I get that one special girl I’m longing for?“, whilst women complain “I got used for sex and dumped“. Worse still, it seems that we must also endure ill-mannered, low-intelligence, self-proclaimed experts, as well as the ridiculous over-claiming of hotshot American marketeers.

So, unsurprisingly, there has been many times when I have met people dissatisfied with the seduction advice they had been sold by apparent seduction experts. Often this advice merely boils down to “go out to pubs and clubs seven-days-a-week”; in which case someone will have just spent a lot of money simply to be told to ‘play a numbers game’. In this situation, it is patently obvious that sooner or later one is almost certain to meet an easy party girl, or someone needy and looking for emotional validation. My response has therefore tended to be to advise people to insist on a refund; and then if that fails, to contact your local Trading Standards office (in the UK) or the Federal Trade Commission (in the USA) with details of the corporation you dealt with, so that they can bring stronger actions against the mountebanks.

The point that is beyond the comprehension of the Seduction snake oil peddlers is to fail to distinguish between a Social circle and an academy. These two forms of organization exist for different purposes, and therefore require different sets of values in order to be fit for their respective purposes. An academy is not just a pile of bricks, it is any collective engaged in mutual-help learning. So, for example, this website is an academy, even though it has no physical presence or location.

A further unfortunate general misunderstanding of academies is that they are concerned with both teaching and research, when in fact they are concerned with neither. Academies are about learning - whether that is learning what is already known to others, or learning what is not yet known to anybody is immaterial from the point of view of the learner - because it’s all new to them. Therefore, if the purpose of an academy is learning, it must follow that those who cannot or do not want to learn have no place in that academy.

In any form of academy, those fit to be there learn quickly that knowledge is not and never can be complete. No one person, no matter how hard-working or dedicated can start from basics and rebuild the entire structure of knowledge to date. Thus, an academy is necessarily a collective human activity, with each generation building on what has gone before; if the prior work is not sound, the next layer won’t hold. Hence, the demand in an academy is not that anyone achieves an impossible non-existent end, but that everyone works as hard as their talents allow, in order to make the current efforts as concrete as possible. To that end, constructive criticism is essential, and anything found suspect has to be redone, whether its originator likes that fact or not.

Now, I am not decrying the value of non-academic human beings, or the social value of other forms of human organisation. When I write that exploitative seduction Quacks who dehumanise women do not belong in any academy, this is not just to save the time and money of people who may unwittingly sign up to learn bizarre groupthink nostrums. It is also to save these Quack’s own time and energy, so that they may apply efforts to whatever their mindset fits them for, instead of making themselves and others miserable with dreary talk of seduction being hard work; or having them try activities for which they are not suited themselves.

Thus, greedy seduction charlatans might find an enormous pile of un-validated data and theories a spectacle amusing in their own Social circle; and, if that Social circle wants to see a big pile of crap on its lawn, so be it. In an academy such an approach is not tolerable. The crap has to be cleared away to make space for well-founded structures.

That said, people frequently ask me why I don’t resign from my job and make money by becoming some sort of commercial Seduction Guru. People are shocked that I give help and advice, without honoraria, to those looking to improve their love lives. Surprisingly, they seem to believe that I should have an army of fawning sycophants all speaking a Lolcat style of language, all following some type of proprietary methodology, all treating women as slightly retarded sperm receptacles and all projecting a macho man image, whilst I reap a substantial share of profits. You may be wondering about this as well, so here’s my explanation:

Scientists by their very natures are inquiring people. And, I now find that I have more interests and demands on my time that I ever dreamed possible. So, whilst I could spend my time Fencing, Socializing, playing Chess, Climbing or unravelling my Genealogy, it’s exciting for me to discover more about Sex, Sexuality, Seduction and Relationships, as well as the Psychology, Sociology, and Anthropology etc. of Sexual behaviour. Then, researchers like to share their findings with colleagues all over the world, whereas self-proclaimed seduction experts seem to spend much of their time trying to pass off other people’s ideas as their own - This tends to result in advice that is mostly all identical, yet often completely incorrect.

So, this intellectual sexual lifestyle aside - and the fact that I cannot see any difference between prostitution and people charging for seduction related information - why are the collaborators and I making this information public? I’m convinced that the benefits of doing so exceed the satisfaction and profits from keeping the ideas secret, or having a website plastered with adverts; thereby losing editorial control, and having to kowtow to the agenda of masters who are paying for use of advertising space.
